YUCATAN DREAMING WITH A BEACH VIEW

Now that the weather is cooling off some up north, it's time to start dreaming of the good life south of the border! I remember being back home in Delaware, there was a nip in the air, the leaves were turning and I was dreaming of sun-drenched beaches in Mexico. Our thoughts were turning to Mexico, margaritas and warm days relaxing in the sun.

Is that your dream too? Here at Mayan Living we help you turn your dreams into reality. Would you like a great home, one off the beach with stunning ocean views? Would you like to escape from the snow? Take a look at this wonderful home for under $100,000. It offers ample parking in the front

Kitchen cabinets! Something that is not seen here often, especially in this price range.

SHOPPING IN PROGRESO

Every few days we head over to Progreso to check out the sights, go to the local fruit and vegetable market and just look at the treasures in general. I love going to the market and buying flowers for the house. I can usually pick up a great bouquet for about $5 US. I love seeing the exotic Bird of Paradise flowers, Ginger blossoms and more mixed in with the more conventional Sun Flowers and Lilies.

This week I didn't buy any flowers, I was on a mission to purchase a new mirror for our downstairs bathroom. We are finally getting around to redoing it after living in our current home for nearly a year. Still, I couldn't help but wander around the market a bit.

Check out this beautiful flowers:

The craft items are just wonderful at the market too!

And then there is all of the fresh fruits and veggies, works of art themselves.

Once we finished strolling through the market it was time to get serious about finding the perfect bathroom mirror, we thought we would visit a few of the local gift shops.

Many cool things
Pocketbooks anybody? But no mirrors that matched what I had in mind,

While many parts of the US and Canada are covered in snow, this is what it looks like here at the beach today! A little breezy and about 80 degrees...
I love this guy with his horse and cart. He travels around the Progreso area and sells bags of dirt for your garden.
Progreso beach
However as great as the day is, still no mirror, so off to Merida......... There is a guy that sets up alongside the road and sells beautiful Talavera pottery and home accessories, maybe he will have exactly what I'm looking for,

Many beautiful and tempting things here, but still not what I have my mind set on...

We left the shop and I had a brainstorm, how about Pier One? I have always loved that store and thought they may have something that is just perfect for my bathroom. Pier One is located inside Sears at the Grand Plaza Mall. Got there and found a great mirror! Of course there was no price as is a common practice here. It was made of shells and oval, a little smaller than what I had in mind but just gorgeous! Unfortunately, Pier One was very proud of this masterpiece, about $250. Many things are cheaper here, but when it comes to imported items, you had better sit down when you hear the prices!

Doug and I decided that we could make our own mirror, we already had the one in the bathroom that I didn't like, all I need to do is go pickup some more shells. Soooooo, off I go, heading to the beach with a bucket, pictures to follow soon!

In the meantime, don't forget to checkout our real estate website, find the home of your dreams and live the easy life here in sunny Mexico!

The Hidden Beauty in the Yucatan

Today was a monumental day for me, I was able to get up and take a nice beach walk with hubby and the doggies. It seems as if it has been forever that I have been laid up in my bedroom recuperating. During my walk I looked at everything with fresh eyes, almost as if it were the first time. I was able to newly appreciate the sights, sounds and smell of the beach and the native plants along the way. I have been in a bit of dead zone trying to think of things to post about while just laying in bed and looking out of the window. Today brought back all the reasons why I love it here so much! I want to share my walk with you through pictures that I took. I hope that you enjoy them. Chillin' in Chelem.

This is the view from the front of my house, it is a small hotel, only about 6 rooms. The owners are sooo nice, we can go over, hang out in their pool, lay in their chairs on the beach and have food and drinks delivered to us.

The beach was beautiful this morning, the sun shining on the water made it sparkle like diamonds.

To the west of us is this jetty, it protects the beach from storms and keeps the sand from eroding.

Doug had the rare day off from selling real estate and was able to go with the dogs and me. Here he is telling them to go get the coconut.

On the way back I stopped and took pictures of all the flowers that I saw, they were gorgeous, thriving even in the salt air.

Now I remember why Doug and I moved here to this beautiful place. I think having a break really was good for me, I appreciate it so much more. There are so many people that dream of living the life that we do. Statistics say that more people are leaving the USA than ever before in the history of the states, I know why! International Living magazine voted the Yucatan as the number one retirement haven in the world last year. It truly is a "hidden jewel." Warm breezes and cold beers coming at ya from Chelem.
